Alhassan Abdul Salaam is currently the District Finance Officer for the Bongo District Assembly in the Upper East Region of Ghana. He is a seasoned finance person, a businessman and an expert in Local Government Accounting with over 21 years of combined experience in Cooperate Governance.
Mr Abdul Salaam brings on board vast experience from both the financial sector and the business environment as well. He served as the Chairman of the Supervisory/Audit Committee of the Bawku Community Cooperative Credit Union between 2008- 2016. He was later elected to the board of the BCCCU for four years in 2017. His experience lead to his re-election to the board in 2020 where he was subsequently elected the Vice Chairman of the board where he contributed greatly to growth of the BCCCU becoming the second best performing Credit Union in the Upper East Region.
Mr Abdul Salaam holds a good academic background, having read Bachelor of Commerce for his first degree at the University of Cape Coast. He also holds an MBA in Accounting from the University of Cape Coast. He joined the Controller and Accountant General’s Department in 2007 where he started as a Principal Accounts Technician at the Bawku Municipal Assembly. He further moved to become the Regional Accountant for the Department of Births and Deaths in the Upper East Region in 2015.
His vast experience in Local Government Accounting and Cooperate Governance further necessitated his movement by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to the Builsa North Municipal Assembly-Sandema in 2018 where he worked briefly as the Deputy Finance Officer before being moved again to the Talensi District Assembly as the Deputy Finance Officer in the same year of 2018.
He was again moved to the Bongo District Assembly in November, 2022 as the District Finance Officer and the Chief Accounting Officer representing the Controller and Accountant General of Ghana on all financial matters relating to the operations and management of the Bongo District Assembly.
On his Professional journey, he is currently a final level student of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICA).
He is a practicing Moslem and he is married with four (4) children.
